OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Okaloosa County will celebrate the grand opening of the Bridge-to-Bridge Multi-Use Path with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Beasley Park.
The new four-mile, 12-foot-wide path will eventually connect the John T. Brooks Bridge (once bridge construction is complete) and the William T. Marler Bridge. County officials said the multi-use path is designed to enhance safety and recreation for pedestrians and bicyclists along Okaloosa Island.
“This one-of-a-kind project will allow us to enjoy a pedestrian-friendly area along this beautiful stretch of Northwest Florida between Destin and Fort Walton Beach,” said Commissioner Carolyn Ketchel of District 2.
“I truly appreciate the dedication of our Public Works team as they continue to foster great working relationships with Eglin Air Force Base.”
The path features photoluminescent materials that glow at night, creating a unique evening experience for walkers and cyclists. Beach access parking areas were improved with a more solid base, and bollards were installed at key areas to increase safety.
“This is a great example of how we are improving recreation and supporting healthy lifestyles in Okaloosa County,” said Board Chairman Paul Mixon.
“We appreciate our state legislators who helped fund this effort that will provide a lasting benefit for Okaloosa residents and visitors.”
After the ribbon cutting, attendees are encouraged to walk or ride the path to commemorate its opening. Funding for the project came from tourism revenue, a Florida Department of Transportation grant, and a private donor.
John C. Beasley Park, formerly known as John Beasley Wayside Park, is a public beach area on Okaloosa Island. It is at 1550 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
