NICEVILLE, Fla. — Approximately 150 Niceville High School students participated in the fourth annual Reality Check financial literacy simulation on April 20.
The one-day event, organized by the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, placed students in real-world scenarios designed to teach practical money management skills.
Students were assigned careers, salaries, and family situations, then rotated through interactive stations such as housing, utilities, insurance, and communications.
At each stop, they made simulated financial decisions, paid expenses, and built budgets, gaining firsthand experience with the costs and responsibilities of adult life.
The Okaloosa County School District said the hands-on format helps students better understand the importance of budgeting and financial planning before entering the workforce.
The event was funded by Origin Bank and supported by a wide range of community partners and volunteers.
Participating organizations included the Okaloosa County School District, Doolittle Institute, Modern Technology Solutions, Inc., Okaloosa County Teachers Federal Credit Union, Origin Bank, Eglin Federal Credit Union, United Fidelity, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, the Okaloosa County Tax Collector’s Office, and 7th Brew in Niceville.

Additional support came from members of the U.S. Air Force at Hurlburt Field, U.S. Army recruiters, and local business representatives.
Volunteers and organizers from Niceville High School and the City of Niceville’s maintenance department also contributed to the event’s success.
The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation said similar Reality Check events have been held in recent years for students from Crestview, Choctawhatchee, Laurel Hill, and Fort Walton Beach high schools.
District officials said programs like Reality Check play an important role in preparing students for life beyond the classroom by building confidence and real-world financial awareness.
