Lane closures this week for Brooks Bridge, U.S. 98, and State Road 85 work

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced traffic disruptions on several state roads in Okaloosa and Walton counties for the week of Sept. 14 as crews perform construction and maintenance work.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project:
Alternating lane closures are scheduled on U.S. 98 from Ferry Road to Pier Road, and on Santa Rosa Boulevard from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park, Sunday, Sept. 14 through Thursday, Sept. 18, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The roadway west of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center remains closed from U.S. 98 to just north of the roundabout, including a partial roundabout closure. The closure will remain in place through mid-2026 as crews build the westbound bridge structure and approach.

Access to the Convention Center is open via Pier Road, and drivers can reach properties north of U.S. 98, including Marler Park and the boat launch, via Santa Rosa Boulevard. Eastbound U.S. 98 drivers will detour via the East Connection to reach Santa Rosa Boulevard.

— State Road 85 Improvements from State Road 123 to Hospital Drive:
Intermittent lane closures are scheduled Sunday, Sept. 14, through Thursday, Sept. 18. Northbound lanes from Shoal River Bridge to I-10 will close between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Southbound lanes from I-10 to the Shoal River Bridge will close between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

— State Road 85 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90:
Intermittent lane closures are planned Sunday, Sept. 14 through Thursday, Sept. 18, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for striping operations.

WALTON COUNTY

— Western Lake Bridge Replacement:
Intermittent lane closures are planned near Western Lake Bridge on County Road 30A Monday, Sept. 15, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for crane mobilization. Flaggers will direct pedestrian and marine traffic through the work zone.

— U.S. 331 Resurfacing from south of I-10 to U.S. 90:
The U.S. 331 northbound outside right-turn lane is temporarily closed at the U.S. 90 intersection. One northbound left-turn lane and one lane for both left and right-turn movements remain open to access U.S. 90. The U.S. 90 westbound outside travel lane is also temporarily closed between 11th Street and U.S. 331. One westbound travel lane and one left-turn lane to access U.S. 331 remain open.

— U.S. 98 Intersection Improvements at U.S. 331:
Intermittent lane closures are scheduled Sunday, Sept. 14, through Thursday, Sept. 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.

All work is weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. According to the FDOT, drivers are urged to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through work zones, and to watch for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
