The proclamation was issued during the board’s March 24 meeting and aligns with the national campaign’s 2026 theme, “Own Your Financial Story: Small Steps, Big Impact.”

America Saves Week, established in 2007, is described as both an annual celebration and a call to action encouraging individuals to evaluate their finances, set savings goals, and create plans to achieve financial stability.

“We are deeply grateful to the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners for their continued leadership in promoting the importance of saving,” said Okaloosa Saves Board Chair Laura Coale.

“Building personal and household savings remains essential to the long-term financial stability and resilience of northwest Florida families.”

The proclamation highlights the importance of emergency savings, retirement planning, and maintaining healthy debt-to-income ratios as key components of financial security.

According to the proclamation, America Saves is a national campaign that encourages individuals to reduce debt and build wealth, while Okaloosa Saves partners locally to support residents and businesses in improving their financial outlook.

Commissioners are calling on residents to take steps such as starting or increasing emergency funds, opening savings accounts, using split deposits, and increasing 401(k) contributions during the week and beyond.

Okaloosa Saves, founded in 2003 as part of the national America Saves program, is a nonprofit organization focused on helping individuals build wealth and reduce debt.

In 2025, the organization received the Savings Champion Award from America Saves.
