FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A woman who reportedly returned to a Fort Walton Beach area convenience store to apologize and pay for two stolen packs of cigarettes was arrested on a robbery charge, said the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), Tonya Jo Reiman, of Tyner Street, returned to the Tom Thumb on James Lee Boulevard and offered to pay the $10.26 cost of the cigarettes she allegedly took during a May 9 robbery.
The OCSO said deputies responded to the business and detained Ms Reiman.
Investigators said Reiman reportedly approached the counter during the earlier incident with a gray sweatshirt wrapped around her hand, causing the clerk to believe she had a firearm.
The OCSO said Ms Reiman reportedly told the employee, “You don’t want me to hurt you, do you?” before taking two packs of cigarettes and leaving without paying.
According to investigators, Reiman later admitted after receiving her Miranda warning that she had pretended to have a gun in order to rob the clerk.
Investigators also said Ms Reiman wrote an apology letter stating, “I’m sorry for hurting the woman and sorry for hurting all those that Jesus loves.”
