WALTON COUNTY, Fla.– Today, the U.S. 98 east and westbound travel lanes opened to the final configuration between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive in Walton County, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) said in an announcement.
The roadway has been widened from four to six travel lanes and includes a new bicycle lane in each direction.
According to the FDOT, construction crews will continue paving turnouts and side streets for the next month.
Drivers can expect intermittent east and westbound lane closures between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive, Sunday through Thursday nights, from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Crews will be paving and striping the roadway, the FDOT said.
The work is part of the $42 million project to widen U.S. 98 from four to six travel lanes between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive. The widening project includes the construction of new sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Construction is estimated for completion this summer.
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
