VALPARAISO, Fla. – Northbound traffic on John Sims Parkway (State Road 20) over Toms Bayou Bridge will be shifted to the new northbound bridge this week.
The shift will open John Sims Parkway to four travel lanes, two northbound (away from Eglin AFB toward Niceville) and two southbound (toward Eglin AFB).
Pedestrians will be temporarily detoured to the midblock crossings on each end of the new northbound structure as crews construct traffic railing on the southbound bridge.
Additional lane closures will be required to construct the traffic railing, reconstruct the median, and perform milling and resurfacing operations. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be placed in the final configuration after the traffic railing on the southbound bridge is complete.
The new northbound bridge now includes two travel lanes, an eight-foot outside shoulder, and a five-foot sidewalk. The southbound bridge has been widened to accommodate two travel lanes, an eight-foot outside shoulder, and five-foot sidewalk.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
