DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. — A student is in custody after a reported stabbing yesterday at Walton Middle School in DeFuniak Springs, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at 7:22 a.m. on Tuesday to reports of a stabbing on campus.
A School Resource Deputy was already on site, and additional patrol deputies and officers from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department responded.
At 7:30 a.m., the suspect, identified as a Walton Middle School student, was reportedly detained about a block from the school.
Two students and one adult were transported with injuries, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
Classes at Walton Middle School were canceled on Tuesday following the incident.
“Our first priority, along with Walton County School District, was to ensure that students and staff were safe, the situation was brought under control, and accurate information was relayed to parents regarding reunification,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
