September 9 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa: one more death

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 4,461, 33 more since yesterday morning. The death toll in Okaloosa now is 90, one more death reported since yesterday.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 591.

Statewide, 2,056 new cases were reported since yesterday.

The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is 269, three more since yesterday. On Tuesday, there were 32 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals; six in ICU beds.

Yesterday’s daily positivity rate in Okaloosa was 10.34 percent.

Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate for the week ending Saturday, August 29 was 7.63 percent. It was 8.93 percent the previous week and 8.61 percent for the week before that, August 9-15.

On Tuesday, Okaloosa County Department of Health Director Dr. Karen Chapman reported that 27 cases of COVID-19 had been identified within the Okaloosa County School District during the first week of classes: 18 students and nine members of staff. The cases have led to 90 people being quarantined.

Here’s the latest breakdown by city in Okaloosa (note that the city is not always reported as part of the initial notification and may be missing while the case is being investigated):

  • Fort Walton Beach, 1,535, 14 since yesterday
  • Destin, 580, two since yesterday
  • Niceville, 543, one since yesterday
  • Crestview, 899, six since yesterday
  • Shalimar, 219, four since yesterday
  • Mary Esther, 229, two since yesterday
  • Eglin AFB, 55, two since yesterday
  • Laurel Hill, 40, one since yesterday
  • Baker, 89, one since yesterday
  • Holt, 33, no change
  • Valparaiso, 48, no change
  • Hurlburt Field, 5, no change
  • Milligan, 2, no change
  • Cinco Bayou, 3, no change
  • Homeless, 1, no change
  • Missing, 142, no change
