NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County has issued a water quality health advisory for Rocky Bayou State Park in Niceville and Liza Jackson Park in Fort Walton Beach after bacteria levels reportedly exceeded state recreational water quality guidelines.
According to the Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County (DOH-Okaloosa), water samples collected on Thursday, May 28, showed that neither location met the recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria.
The advisory applies to:
- Rocky Bayou State Park, 4281 State Road 20, Niceville
- Liza Jackson Park, 342 Miracle Strip Parkway SW, Fort Walton Beach
DOH-Okaloosa advises against water-related activities at both locations because of what it described as an increased risk of illness for swimmers.
According to DOH-Okaloosa, routine water quality monitoring found bacteria levels exceeding state health guidelines.
The advisory will remain in effect until bacteria levels fall below accepted health standards, the DOH-Okaloosa said.
