OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants interested in serving on the Okaloosa County/Fort Walton Beach Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, with applications due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
According to Okaloosa County, the Board of County Commissioners, with the mutual approval of the Fort Walton Beach City Council, will appoint one citizen to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, also known as the AHAC.
Pursuant to section 420.9076, Florida Statutes, the AHAC serves in an advisory capacity to the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners and the Fort Walton Beach City Council on issues related to affordable housing in Okaloosa County.
The committee is tasked with developing recommendations to address impediments, create incentives, and support the expansion of affordable housing opportunities within the local area. Meetings are held at least quarterly, according to the county.
Appointees will serve a three-year term beginning immediately upon appointment.
The minimum requirements for appointment are outlined in section 420.9076, Florida Statutes, and by Board of County Commissioners policy.
Okaloosa County said it is currently soliciting applications from citizens who meet one of the following categories:
- A citizen who is knowledgeable in the local planning process.
- A citizen who represents essential services personnel, as defined in the local housing assistance plan.
- A citizen who represents employers within the jurisdiction.
