NICEVILLE, Fla. — The City of Niceville is included in Okaloosa County’s 2025 Annual Progress Report, reviewing countywide efforts to reduce the risk of flooding and other hazards.
According to the Okaloosa County Growth Management Department, the report tracks progress on the Local Mitigation Strategy, a long-range plan that guides how the county and its municipalities, including Niceville, prepare for hazards such as flooding, severe weather, and other emergencies
The current Local Mitigation Strategy was last updated in 2021 and approved by both the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That plan remains in effect while work continues on a new update scheduled for submission in April 2026, according to the report.
County officials reported that no revisions were made to the 2021 strategy during the past year and that no mitigation projects were completed in 2025. No projects were added to or removed from the existing project list, the report states.
The report notes that much of the work identified in the Local Mitigation Strategy consists of ongoing activities carried out as part of regular county and municipal operations. At the time of the 2025 report, all goals and objectives outlined in the current strategy were reported as being met.
The Local Mitigation Strategy also serves as Okaloosa County’s official Hazard Mitigation Plan under the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System. Maintaining the plan and issuing annual progress reports helps communities remain eligible for certain flood insurance benefits and federal mitigation funding, according to the report.
The full 2025 Annual Progress Report is available through the Growth Management section of the Okaloosa County website and at county planning offices in Shalimar and Crestview, according to the report.
