March 9 COVID-19, vaccination report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Tuesday reported 68 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 17 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The FDOH reports 371 vaccinations were administered in Okaloosa County the previous day. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 29,602. The number of people who have completed the vaccination series in Okaloosa is 16,970, according to FDOH data.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 19,316.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 334, no change since the previous report.

Statewide, 4,426 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,952,733. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 31,889.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 693, two more since the previous day. Currently, there are 18 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, since the previous report, there were 475 test results returned in Okaloosa with 68 positives. The daily positivity rate is 14.32 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 11.26 percent for the week ending March 6, down from 12.22 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 11.9 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
