WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A Bonifay man is jailed after he allegedly blocked victims on U.S. 331, pointed a handgun at them, and triggered a multi-agency response, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said deputies responded around 1 p.m. on February 8 to a 911 call reporting a man pointing a firearm while traveling north on U.S. 331 South near Sherwood Road.
According to the WCSO, law enforcement officers from the Office of the City Marshal, DeFuniak Springs Police Department, helped quickly locate the suspect vehicle. Investigators identified the driver as Blackie Alvarez, 33, of Bonifay.
Deputies said Mr Alvarez exited a white Ford Explorer, removed a black handgun from his waistband, and placed it on top of the vehicle. Deputies reportedly also found two metal knuckles in his pockets.
Investigators said the victims were driving north on U.S. 331 South when Alvarez allegedly began speeding and honking at them. Deputies said the victims reported Mr Alvarez sped around their vehicle, stopped in front of them, removed a firearm, and pointed it at them.
The WCSO said Alvarez refused to speak with deputies during the investigation.
Authorities charged Mr Alvarez with two felony counts of false imprisonment, two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of unlawful carry of a concealed weapon, and driving without a license.
Investigators said they also discovered Alvarez had an out-of-county warrant from Bay County for failure to pay child support, according to the sheriff’s office.
Mr Alvarez was issued a $235,000 bond and remained incarcerated at the time of the release.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
