January 21 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Thursday reported 98 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 13 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The FDOH reports 83 people received vaccinations in Okaloosa County yesterday. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 10,370. The number of people who have completed the vaccination series totals 350.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 15,549.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 264, no change.

Statewide, 12,873 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,613,884. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 24,739.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 590, four since yesterday. Currently, there are 56 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 640 test results returned in Okaloosa yesterday with 98 positives. The daily positivity rate is 15.31 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 21.79 percent for the week ending January 16, down from 22.05 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 10.7 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
