NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health Saturday reported 269 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 67 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.
The data represents new cases since Dec. 31. The state did not issue a report on Jan. 1.
The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 13,126.
The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 232, one more since the previous report.
Statewide, 31,518 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,354,833 cases.
The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 523, nine more since the previous report. Currently, there are 60 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 545 test results returned in Okaloosa with 90 positives. The daily positivity rate is 16.51 percent.
As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.
According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 19.4 percent for the week ending Dec. 26, up from 17.27 percent the previous week.
Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 13.1 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
