NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Tuesday reported 55 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County since Monday. There are eight new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.
The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 15,282.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 263, no change.
Statewide, 9,816 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,589,097 The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 24,436.
The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 576, four since Monday. Currently, there are 54 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 575 test results returned in Okaloosa on Tuesday with 56 positives. The daily positivity rate is 9.74 percent.
As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.
According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 21.79 percent for the week ending January 16, down from 22.05 percent the previous week.
Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 10.6 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
