OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — A contractor employed at the Okaloosa County Jail was arrested on charges of smuggling contraband into the facility.
According to the Okaloosa County Department of Corrections (OCDC), Corey Shaun Labauve, 26, was arrested on October 3 for allegedly smuggling vapor-generating devices and cellphones into the Okaloosa County Jail.
The OCDC said Mr Labauve worked at the Okaloosa County Jail for approximately 30 days before his arrest. The arrest followed an in-depth investigation by the department.
Chief Correctional Officer Nolan Weeks emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the dedication of his team to ensuring the facility’s security.
“The smuggling of contraband into a correctional facility is a serious offense that directly threatens the safety and order of our operations, he said.
“Our team will continue to swiftly and vigilantly root out any criminal behavior to ensure a secure environment for both our staff and inmates.”
Mr Weeks said the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy on illegal activities within the jail.
Paul Mixon, Chairman of the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners, commended the department.
“Their dedication to upholding the safety and security of our facility is evident in their swift action. We are grateful for their continued efforts in maintaining a controlled environment that prioritizes the well-being of everyone involved,” he said.
