Crews are in the process of widening U.S. 98 from four to six travel lanes between Mack Bayou Road and County Road 30A in Walton County. So far, crews have completed the structural layer for the new U.S. 98 inside east and westbound travel lanes between Mack Bayou Road and West Hewitt Road. The new 10-foot-wide asphalt shared-use path, constructed from Topsail Hill Road to C.R. 30A, can also be seen along the right side of the photo. Now, crews are widening the next segment between West Hewitt Road and County Road 30A. This $15.7 million U.S. 98 widening project also includes drainage improvements and the construction of bicycle lanes and sidewalks. Work is currently estimated for completion in spring 2024.
