FDOT details lane closures ahead of July 4 travel

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced lane closures and ongoing road work in Okaloosa and Walton counties through July 10, but no major state road lane closures are scheduled during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

According to FDOT, there will be no lane closures on major state roads from 7 a.m. Thursday, July 3 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 6, to accommodate holiday traffic.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Overnight intermittent lane closures are expected on U.S. 98 westbound near Santa Rosa Boulevard, and alternating lane closures will take place between Ferry Road and Pier Road, as well as on Santa Rosa Boulevard, from Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park. These closures are scheduled from Sunday, June 29, through Wednesday, July 2, and Monday, July 7, through Thursday, July 10, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

— I-10 Resurfacing from west of Yellow River to east of Shoal River
Alternating lane closures are scheduled between mile markers 50 and 60 from June 29 through July 2 and again from July 6 through July 10. Work will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for striping.

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Drivers may encounter lane closures between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach for signal work and thermoplastic striping. Closures are planned June 29 to July 2 and July 7 to July 10, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

— State Road 85 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90
Paving work will require intermittent lane closures from June 29 to July 2 and from July 7 to July 10, nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

— State Road 85 Utility Maintenance from 10th Avenue to Gardner Drive
Daytime lane closures for power pole replacement are expected Friday, June 27, through Wednesday, July 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WALTON COUNTY

— U.S. 331 Resurfacing from south of I-10 to U.S. 90
Ongoing traffic disruptions include closure of the U.S. 331 northbound outside right-turn lane at U.S. 90 and the U.S. 90 westbound outside travel lane between 11th Street and U.S. 331. These changes remain in place through Saturday, July 12.

— Western Lake Bridge Replacement
On Monday, June 30, County Road 30A will have intermittent lane closures at the bridge over Western Lake from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Temporary signals will direct traffic through the work zone.

— U.S. 98 Intersection Improvements at U.S. 331
Intermittent lane closures are scheduled from June 29 to July 2 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for paving.

— U.S. 98 Turn Lane Operations from Sugar Drive to Thomason Road
Turn lane operations will lead to lane closures from Monday, June 30, to Wednesday, July 2, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

FDOT reminds drivers that no lane closures are planned on major state roads during the Fourth of July travel period, from the morning of Thursday, July 3, through Sunday night, July 6.

All work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled. FDOT urges motorists to use caution in work zones, especially at night, and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting roadways.
