Laura King, who most recently served as assistant principal at Davidson Middle, was approved by the Okaloosa County School Board on June 23 to take over the top leadership role. She brings more than two decades of experience to the position, including time as a teacher and administrator at several schools across Okaloosa County.

Originally from Jacksonville, North Carolina, Ms King earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2001. She moved to Okaloosa County in 2005 with her husband, Samuel King Jr., and later earned a master’s in educational leadership from the University of West Florida in 2014 and a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2016.

Ms King began her career in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and later taught second and third grade in Goldsboro before relocating to Florida. Locally, she has taught at Oak Hill Elementary, Valparaiso Elementary, and Riverside Elementary.
