WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A driver is said to have been taken to jail Saturday after deputies reportedly stopped a vehicle traveling 112 mph on U.S. 331, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office announced the traffic stop occurred on U.S. 331 south, north of Breck Loop. Deputies said the driver was taken into custody following the stop.
The sheriff’s office shared an image that reportedly showed a speed-measuring lidar device displaying a reading of 112 mph. The agency said the traffic stop occurred Saturday morning.
Under Florida law, reckless driving is defined as operating a vehicle with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property. The offense, outlined in Florida Statute 316.192, may result in criminal charges, fines, or jail time.
Additional charges, if any, were not immediately released by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office urged motorists to obey posted speed limits and operate vehicles safely.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
