EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — A new operational security policy at Eglin Air Force Base prohibits the use of dash cameras and other vehicle recording devices on the installation, with enforcement set to begin March 1.
According to Eglin officials, the 96th Test Wing commander added the requirement to the base’s operational security policy in December 2025 to help ensure the safety and security of personnel and assets. The policy applies to privately owned vehicles entering the installation.
Beginning March 1, refusal to comply with the policy will result in denied entry to the base, officials said.
Under the updated policy:
- Owner-installed devices must be powered off and removed from view
- Factory-installed or built-in cameras must be completely powered off before entering the base
- Motorcycle helmet cameras must be powered off and removed from the helmet
Lt. Col. Michael Bruton, commander of the 96th Security Forces Squadron, said the change is intended to strengthen operational security.
“Defending the base is my top priority, and it takes all of Team Eglin to achieve this,” said Lt. Col. Michael Bruton.
“Eglin’s OPSEC policy is a layer of protection for our ability to directly project national defense. It is our duty to secure our personnel and assets. Limiting recording devices on the installation allows Eglin to deliver war-winning capabilities, achieving our national objectives and ensuring strategic deterrence.”
Officials said the prohibition is designed to protect sensitive information and ensure the installation can continue to support national defense missions.
