NICEVILLE, Fla. — A woman has been arrested after a firearm reportedly discharged during an early morning confrontation inside a Niceville home where a 9-month-old child was present, according to the Niceville Police Department.
Officers with the Niceville Police Department responded around 5:22 a.m. on March 7 to a report of a disturbance involving a firearm discharged inside a residence.
Investigators said a female suspect had fled the scene with a 9-month-old child, and her location was unknown at the time officers arrived.
Police later identified the suspect as Shaniyah Monah Carmichael.
According to the Niceville Police Department, Ms Carmichael reportedly arrived at the residence of her estranged ex-husband at approximately 4 a.m. and allegedly forced her way into a bedroom while armed with a firearm.
During a struggle that followed, the firearm reportedly discharged once.
The round was fired into the ceiling in the direction of the room where the couple’s 9-month-old son was located at the time of the incident, investigators said.

Authorities later located Carmichael’s vehicle at a residence in Shalimar. Officers made contact with her and placed her under arrest, according to the Niceville Police Department.
Ms Carmichael has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child neglect, battery, and firing a weapon on residential property.
Investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant at the Shalimar residence, where the child was located and returned to the custody of the father, police said.
The firearm believed to have been used in the incident was also recovered at the location.
The Niceville Police Department said the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations assisted in the investigation.
The case remains under active investigation.
Ms Carmichael is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
