DESTIN, Fla. — A Destin man has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence after an incident that led to his arrest, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) announced on Thursday.
According to the OCSO announcement, deputies responded to the home of Alexander Ratikan, 53, on Sibert Avenue on March 1 after a reported battery. The victim told deputies that Mr Ratikan shoved her down a hallway, causing her to hit her head and lose consciousness.
When she regained consciousness, Ratikan was allegedly standing over her with a knife, cutting her neck. Deputies said they observed lacerations consistent with knife wounds.
Authorities said video footage from Mr Ratikan’s bedroom reportedly showed the victim being grabbed and thrown into the hallway.
Ratikan denied using a knife to batter her, the OCSO said.
Deputies said when they attempted to take Mr Ratikan into custody, he initially refused to exit his home despite their commands. He was eventually subdued with a taser and arrested.
As of Thursday, Ratikan remained in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail.
