On Wednesday evening, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and Walton County Animal Services responded to Grady Brown Park in Freeport following a report of a suspicious incident involving a cat.

When the deputy and animal control officer arrived, they reportedly discovered a dead cat in a trap that appeared to have been purposely thrown and drowned in the water.

Witnesses said they saw Britton Wayne Bush, 47, walk through the park carrying the trap with the cat inside. Moments later, they said they saw him leave without it and called the sheriff’s office.

According to a WCSO Facebook post, a FLOCK camera corroborated the witness’s story, putting Mr. Bush at the scene.

Deputies went to Bush’s residence on Wildwood Drive in Freeport, where he was arrested and transported to the Walton County Jail and charged with felony animal cruelty.

Another cat was inside Mr Bush’s house, which was removed for safety.
