US HIGHWAY 98, Fla.—Motorists traveling on US 98 along the Emerald Coast may encounter traffic disruptions this week as crews perform construction and maintenance activities in Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

BAY COUNTY:

— U.S. 98 west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue
U.S. 98 drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures between Tyndall Drive- Airey Avenue and Louisiana Avenue through Friday, May 31.

— U.S. 98 Widening from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street
Drivers will encounter alternating nighttime lane closures on U.S. 98, between Pier Park Drive and Gulf Boulevard, Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 9.

WALTON COUNTY:

— U.S. 98 Widening from Mack Bayou Road to County Road 30A
Drivers may encounter intermittent alternating lane closures from Sunday, May 5, through Thursday, May 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations and signalization work at U.S. 98 between Mack Bayou Road and County Road 30A.

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from east of U.S. 331 to Peach Creek
Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 lane closures from Sunday, May 5, through Thursday, May 9, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for crews to place thermoplastic striping.

OKALOOSA COUNTY:

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Drivers may encounter U.S. 98 alternating intermittent lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road, Sunday, May 5 through Thursday, May 9, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 lane closures between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach, Sunday, April 28 through Thursday, May 2, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for concrete work.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY

— U.S. 98 Widening from Bayshore Road to Portside Drive
Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:

  • Median and turn-lane closures from Bayshore Road to Tiger Lake Drive. Intermittent lane closures and additional median closures between Bayshore Road and Tiger Lake Drive Sunday, May 5, through Friday, May 10, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for stormwater drainage improvements and paving operations.
  • Motorists traveling along U.S. 98 in Santa Rosa County will encounter new temporary traffic patterns. Traffic turning onto Gondolier Boulevard from U.S. 98 will remain one lane, and traffic turning onto U.S. 98 from Gondolier Boulevard will be reduced to one lane. Additionally, traffic turning onto North College Parkway from U.S. 98 will remain one lane, and traffic turning onto U.S. 98 from North College Parkway will be reduced to one lane. The temporary traffic patterns are required for crews to complete turn-lane radius widening operations at both locations.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

— U.S. 98 (Garden Street) Routine Maintenance near the Palafox Street Intersection
Motorists may encounter alternating nighttime lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 5, through Thursday, May 9, for routine maintenance.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
