NICEVILLE, Fla. — The John Sims Parkway resurfacing project is projected to be completed in mid-June, a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) spokesman said on Thursday.

The completion date was recently pushed back after the contractor of the project requested additional time to complete the work. The contractor, CWR Construction, requested a 155-day extension, the FDOT said.

According to the FDOT, it has approved an additional 18 days.

“The other requested additional days have either been denied or we need additional information to make a determination of whether we approve or deny the time,” said Kohen Johns Brannon, FDOT Public Information Specialist.

“We don’t have a specific date for completion at this time, but completion is anticipated in mid-June. This estimation is weather dependent.”

The $6.2 million, 2.6-mile John Sims Parkway resurfacing project ranges from Edge Avenue to west of Rocky Bayou Bridge. It includes constructing a grassed median west of Palm Boulevard, widening the roadway in key locations to extend or widen existing turn lanes to improve traffic flow, and constructing a new sidewalk on the north side of John Sims Parkway from the Oak Creek Shopping Center to Rocky Bayou Drive.

The project began in February and was originally expected to be completed by late spring.
