The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said its dispatch center received a 911 call just before 1:30 a.m. reporting a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 98.

A deputy located the vehicle approaching him head-on near Highway 98 and Old Blue Mountain Road, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy avoided a collision and made a U-turn in an attempt to catch up with the vehicle, which was reportedly traveling at speeds nearing 100 mph.

The driver ultimately stopped near Veterans Road and Highway 98, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies reported there was no damage to agency vehicles or to the suspect’s vehicle.

The driver was identified as Timothy Galvin, 62, of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Mr Galvin was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and refusing to submit to a DUI test, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Mr Galvin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
