Hospital Corporation of America facilities Twin Cities Hospital and Fort Walton Beach Medical Center were both recognized for their dedication to patient safety by being awarded “A” grades in the Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries, and infections within the hospital.

“We have had a stellar year for accomplishments related to quality and patient safety. These accomplishments are not possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees, physicians, and volunteers each and every day,” said David Whalen, CEO of Twin Cities Hospital.

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”

“Patient safety is our highest priority and this achievement demonstrates our focus on quality,” Mitch Mongell, CEO of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, said. “We’ve gone to great lengths to ensure safety is ingrained in our culture and I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished. It is an honor to have our hospital recognized nationally. I am thankful to all of our employees and physicians who play a key role in helping us achieve this rating.”

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
