Deputies conducted the stop after observing a traffic violation involving a gray Chevrolet Equinox near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and South Lloyd Street.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, two passengers fled on foot as the vehicle slowed to a stop while the driver left the area in the vehicle.

Deputies apprehended both passengers after a brief foot pursuit.

During the investigation, deputies recovered a backpack allegedly carried by one of the fleeing passengers. Inside, investigators found approximately 39 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl, about $2,400 in cash, and a Glock 17 handgun equipped with a “switch,” an illegal conversion device that allows a semi-automatic firearm to function as a fully automatic weapon.

A second passenger, Christopher Rogers, was charged with resisting an officer without violence.
