FLORIDA – A convicted felon from St. Petersburg has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing ammunition.

Dartis Cobb, 35, faces up to 15 years in federal prison. He has agreed to forfeit the ammunition traceable to the offense. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

According to court documents, on August 13, 2022, Cobb was pulled over during a traffic stop. During a search of Cobb’s vehicle, a firearm, and ammunition were reportedly located. As a previously convicted felon, Cobb is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tampa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman is prosecuting it. Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne Nebesky is handling the forfeiture.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
