Shooting reportedly takes place in Freeport; man hospitalized

WALTON COUNTY, Fla— An alleged shooting that reportedly took place at a home in Freeport early Friday morning is under investigation by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said in an announcement.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), the alleged shooting occurred off East Bayou Forest Street in Freeport.

Deputies arrived at the home just minutes after a 911 call at 4:23 a.m. on Friday, the WCSO said.

“The victim was flown by Okaloosa MedFlight to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. The suspect barricaded herself inside the home. SWAT was called to the scene,” the WCSO said in its statement.

“After a brief standoff, the suspect, Dawn Marie Ward, 49, came out of the home and surrendered herself to deputies,” the WCSO said.

According to the WCSO, the incident is still under investigation, and it will release more details once they are available.
