NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Okaloosa County School Board has unanimously approved naming Ruckel Middle School’s new cafetorium in honor of former principal Dr. Virginia “Ginny” Henderson Morgan.
The facility is now known as The Dr. Ginny Morgan Cafetorium, recognizing the late principal’s decades of service to education and her profound impact on students in the community.
Dr. Morgan began her career at Ruckel in 1968 as a math teacher, later becoming the district’s math supervisor before serving as principal. She passed away on February 15, 2024, at the age of 76.
Superintendent Marcus Chambers, who was hired by Dr. Morgan in 1998, reflected on her legacy.
“Dr. Morgan was a principal, but most importantly, she was an educator,” Mr Chambers said.
“For me, she taught me a whole lot, and her biggest motto was, ‘What is best for students?’”
During her tenure, Dr. Morgan led the implementation of programs such as the International Baccalaureate and “Alternatives to Learning.” She also emphasized her “three A’s” — Academics, Arts, and Athletics — and shaped the cafetorium into a central hub for student life, performances, tutoring, science fairs, and community gatherings.
Ruckel Principal Joe Jannazo, who presented the proposal, said Dr. Morgan set a high bar for staff and students.
“She was small in stature, but she demanded nothing but respect,” Mr Jannazo said.
“Everything goes back to what is in the best interest of our kids and the students. I am humbled to follow in those footsteps in that role.”
Dr. David Morgan, her husband of 56 years, also shared his appreciation.
“I know that Ginny would be humble and proud, so thank you so much,” Mr Morgan said.
The Okaloosa County School District said the naming of the cafetorium serves as a tribute to Dr. Morgan’s vision, leadership, and lifelong dedication to the Ruckel Middle School community.
