NICEVILLE, Fla — Online sleep-industry review and information website, Sleepopolis, has conducted a study which has found that Niceville residents who are now working from home during the lockdown are getting some extra sleep. However, the same study ranked Niceville among Florida’s worst cities for sleep.

According to the Sleepopolis study, Niceville residents who are working from home – or not working at all – are now getting an extra 18.3 hours of extra sleep per month.

The study identified and compiled a list of the best and worst cities for sleep in Florida, using a variety of different factors. These were combined to create an overall sleep score out of 100 for each town on the list. Sleep factors in this study include smoking rate, insufficient sleep rate, mentally unhealthy days, physical inactivity, air pollution levels, and unemployment rate.

Niceville has a sleep score of 82.96 and came in position #213, meaning its residents are getting far less quality sleep than those in other towns and cities in Florida, according to Sleepopolis.

The study found that Pinecrest emerged as the best city to have a good night’s rest with an overall sleep score of 89.07. Comparatively, Bellview residents are the mostly likely to benefit from working from home and getting extra Z’s — the town came in last place on the list with a sleep score of just 82.3.

The study found:

The rate of obesity in Niceville (per 1,000) is 290 compared to 210 for Pinecrest, and 360 for Belleview.

The rate of smoking in Niceville (per 1,000) is 170 compared to 140 for Pinecrest, and 170 for Belleview.

The rate of drinking in Niceville (per 1,000) is 200 compared to 170 for Pinecrest, and 180 for Belleview.

The rate of insufficient sleep in Niceville (per 1,000) is 360 compared to 330 for Pinecrest, and 360 for Belleview

The research revealed that cities near the top of the list have minimal levels of air pollution, which is a contributing factor to sleeping habits, according to Sleepopolis. High levels of air pollution correlate with increased rates of breathing diseases such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, and lung cancer, which are linked with obstructive sleep apnea.
