The .97 mile-long concrete sidewalk is currently in the design phase, said County Engineer Scott Bitterman. He estimated the sidewalk project would be under construction sometime over the next couple of years.

NICEVILLE, FLA — Walking the shoulder of narrow Redwood Avenue in Niceville is at best unpleasant, and at worse risky to one’s safety. Okaloosa County is set to do something about it: installing a concrete sidewalk on the west side of Redwood Avenue from Hwy 20 to Valparaiso Blvd.

The .97 mile-long concrete pedestrian sidewalk is currently in the design phase, said County Engineer Scott Bitterman.  He estimated the sidewalk project would be under construction sometime over the next couple of years.

The cost of the project is approximately $416,000. Bitterman said Okaloosa County’s half-cent sales tax would fund the project.

The sidewalk will be constructed on right-of-way already owned by the county.
