Potential disruptions on US Hwy 98 across the Emerald Coast this week

US HIGHWAY 98, Fla.—Motorists traveling on US 98 along the Emerald Coast should be prepared for potential delays and traffic disruptions this week due to ongoing construction and maintenance activities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This comprehensive advisory compiles FDOT’s latest updates for Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties, ensuring you have the most up-to-date information before you hit the road.

BAY COUNTY:

— U.S. 98, Construction west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue
U.S. 98 drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures between Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue and Louisiana Avenue through the end of October.

— U.S. 98, Widening from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street
U.S. 98 drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures between Pier Park Drive and Hills Road on Monday, Sept. 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be installing new temporary traffic signals

— U.S. 98 (Panama City Beach Parkway), Resurfacing from Walton County Line to Heather Drive
Drivers will encounter nighttime intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Sept. 12, for asphalt paving activities.

— U.S. 98 (15th Street), Resurfacing from 23rd Street Flyover to Jenks Avenue
Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures Sunday, Sept. 8 through Thursday, Sept. 12 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities.

— Gulf Coast Parkway, Construction from U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) to Star Avenue
Drivers may encounter a lane closure on westbound U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) from 11th Street to Tram Road beginning Monday, Sept. 9, through Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The lane closure is necessary to allow oversized equipment to access the S.R. 370 (Gulf Coast Parkway) construction site. Traffic control devices will assist in directing motorists through the work area.

— U.S. 98, Routine Bridge Maintenance over St. Anderws Bay
Motorists will encounter intermittent north and southbound lane closures west of the Panama City limit from Sunday, Sept. 8, through Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for routine bridge maintenance.

WALTON COUNTY:

No construction-related traffic impacts are anticipated for this week.

OKALOOSA COUNTY:

— Brooks Bridge, Replacement Project
Drivers may encounter U.S. 98 alternating lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road, Sunday, Sept. 8 through Thursday, Sept. 12, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities:

— U.S. 98, Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 lane closures, between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach, Sunday, Sept. 8 through Thursday, Sept. 12, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for paving operations.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY:

— U.S. 98, Widening from Bayshore Road to Portside Drive
Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:

  • Median and turn-lane closures from Bayshore Road to Tiger Lake Drive
  • Intermittent lane closures and additional median closures between Bayshore Road and Tiger Lake Drive Sunday, Sept. 8, through Friday, Sept. 13, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for stormwater drainage improvements and paving operations

ESCAMBIA COUNTY:

— U.S. 98, Routine Bridge Inspection on Pensacola Bay Bridge
Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, for routine bridge inspection.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
