OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — A major resurfacing project is getting underway along Eglin Parkway in Okaloosa County, with overnight lane closures expected as work progresses, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced it will begin an $11.6 million resurfacing project on Eglin Parkway, also known as State Road 85, from Richbourg Avenue in Shalimar to U.S. Highway 98 in Fort Walton Beach.
The project includes a series of roadway and pedestrian upgrades intended to improve safety and traffic flow along the busy corridor.
According to the FDOT, planned improvements include sidewalk and crosswalk enhancements with Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades, signalization improvements, stormwater management enhancements, and new roadway signage and pavement markings.
During construction, drivers should expect periodic lane closures Sunday through Thursday evenings, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., the FDOT said.
The FDOT said the project is part of its ongoing effort to improve traffic flow and increase safety on state roadways throughout Northwest Florida.
Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2027.
