Okaloosa-Walton traffic advisory includes road closures for Pirate Festival

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla.—Drivers in Okaloosa and Walton counties may encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads this week as crews perform construction and maintenance activities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Here is this week’s traffic advisory.

Okaloosa County Traffic Advisory:

— Eglin Parkway, 68th Annual Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival
Drivers will encounter road closures from U.S. 98 (Miracle Strip Parkway) to Hughes Street Northeast on Monday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival.

— Brooks Bridge, Replacement Project
Drivers may encounter the following traffic disruptions, Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities:

  • U.S. 98 alternating intermittent lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road
  • Santa Rosa Boulevard alternating lane closures from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park

— Mid-Bay Bridge, Rehabilitation Project
Drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures on the Mid-Bay Bridge, Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for construction activities.

— Mary Esther Boulevard, Resurfacing from U.S. 98 to Beal Parkway
Drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures on Mary Esther Boulevard for concrete work and milling and paving operations at the following locations and times:

  • Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, from U.S. 98 to Hollywood Boulevard, between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, May 19 through Saturday, May 25, from Hollywood Boulevard to Beal Parkway, between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

— State Road 85, Resurfacing from north of Commerce Drive to Bill Lundy Road
Drivers may encounter intermittent State Road 85 single-lane closures for paving operations between:

  • Airport Road and Butler Road, Monday, May 20 through Thursday, May 23, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Commerce Drive and Butler Road, Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Butler Road and Bill Lundy Road, Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— Interstate 10 (I-10), Resurfacing from west of Yellow River to east of Shoal River
Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures between mile markers 56 and 60 on Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Construction crews will be milling and paving the roadway. Please note that this area’s speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph.

— State Road 285, Lighting Operations from College Boulevard to North Palm Boulevard in Niceville
Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures for lighting operations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 20, Wednesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 23.

— U.S 98, Cellular Pole Installation at Marler Street in Destin
Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for installation of a cellular pole.

Walton County Traffic Advisory:

— U.S. 98, Pedestrian Underpass at Inlet Beach
Drivers may encounter intermittent, temporary single-lane closures on U.S. 98 near the County Road 30A intersection the week of Monday, May 20, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for work list activities.

— U.S. 98 Widening from Mack Bayou Road to County Road 30A
Drivers may encounter intermittent, alternating lane closures, Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations and signalization work at the following locations:

  • U.S. 98 between Mack Bayou Road and C.R. 30A
  • Mack Bayou Road between U.S. 98 and Mack Bayou Loop
  • Goldsby Road between U.S. 98 and Commercial Parkway

— U.S. 98, Resurfacing from east of U.S. 331 to Peach Creek
Construction is complete on a $8.3 million project to resurface and improve U.S. 98 in Walton County, from east of S.R. 83 (U.S. 331) to Peach Creek. Improvements include milling and paving this 4.5-mile segment of U.S. 98, turn lane improvements at Blakely Drew Boulevard, shoulder widening and drainage enhancements, signalization improvements, and new signage and pavement markings.

— U.S. 98, Turn Lane Operations at the New Los Rancheros west of Hunters Road
Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures for turn lane operations on Monday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
