NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) has launched an innovative Virtual Reality (VR) program to transform the educational experience for students, according to district officials.
The program is said to engage students through immersive learning across various subjects.
Teachers across the district have been undergoing specialized training to incorporate VR into their classrooms, OCSD officials said. Math instructors, including Michael Lightbourne from Pryor Middle School, recently completed a Prism VR training session.
Mr Lightbourne has implemented the technology, using Prism VR glasses to enhance his geometry lessons.
Biology teachers at Fort Walton Beach High School and Choctawhatchee High School are also piloting VR in their classes, according to OCSD.
Recently, students in Mrs Sweitzer’s biology class at Choctawhatchee High used Prisms VR to explore complex biological concepts. Meanwhile, Dr Eliason at Bruner Middle School introduced the technology to his geometry students, with even the school’s principal participating in the experience, the district said.
OCSD officials stated that the district’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology ensures students gain hands-on, interactive learning opportunities. They added that this initiative will help prepare students for a future where technology is integral to everyday life.
