NICEVILLE, Fla. — Nathan Basnett has been named the Okaloosa County School District’s (OCSD) 2024–2025 Volunteer of the Year for his work with students at Addie R. Lewis School in Valparaiso, the district announced at the July 14 school board meeting.
Mr Basnett, who lives in Valparaiso, has spent the past four years dedicating his time to the fifth-grade program, working in four out of five classrooms and impacting more than 90 students, according to the Okaloosa County School District (OCSD).
Even with a rotating work schedule, he reportedly volunteers six hours a day during his off months, providing steady support for students and staff, the district said.
His contributions extend beyond the classroom.
OCSD said Mr Basnett serves on the school’s PTO and School Advisory Council, and his calm presence and dedication are said to have left a lasting mark on the Lewis community.
“We are honored to celebrate Mr. Basnett as the District’s Volunteer of the Year and thank him for being a true champion for our schools and students,” the Okaloosa County School District stated in its announcement.
