DESTIN, Fla. — A motorcyclist was arrested in Destin after being stopped for speeding twice in one night, including once for allegedly traveling 91 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred during Operation Southern Slow Down, a regional campaign that began July 14 and focuses on curbing speeding and aggressive driving across Florida and other Southeastern states.

Deputies with the Delta East Patrol made the initial stop during the night shift. The motorcyclist was reportedly given a stern warning after being stopped for speeding and was educated on the risks of endangering the public.

Shortly after the first stop, a second deputy pulled over the same rider for allegedly going 91 mph in a 35 mph posted zone.

The motorcyclist was arrested and taken to the Okaloosa County Jail. His motorcycle was impounded.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest underscores the dangers of reckless driving and the need for enhanced enforcement during summer months when crash rates typically rise.

Operation Southern Slow Down continues through July 19. The campaign involves multiple law enforcement agencies in Florida and neighboring states.

Public safety is a top priority, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Drive safe. Slow down. It saves lives,” the agency added in its announcement.
