The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra continues its 29th Season as the region’s premier professional orchestra with a glorious “MAGIC OF MENDELSSOHN” concert, April 9, 7:30 p.m., at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville. The concert will feature a grand instrumental and vocal performance of Mendelssohn’s complete Incidental Music to a Midsummer Night’s Dream, to herald the beginning of Spring. Guest Artist Philipp Stäudlin, faculty member at the Boston Conservatory of Music and an internationally award-winning saxophone virtuoso, opens the concert with works by Rachmaninov and Milhaud.
Written at the age of 17, Mendelssohn’s magical score will also be brought to life by Narrator Clint Mahle, an NWF State College theater professor, soprano Amy Bullard, mezzo soprano Jennifer Boudette and the women of the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale, NWF State College Madrigals and Belle Voci Women’s Ensemble.
Philipp Stäudlin will opens the April 9, 2016 concert with Milhaud’s playful Scaramouche for Saxophone and Orchestra and Rachmaninov’s Vocalise Op. 34, No. 14. An acclaimed performer and educator from Germany, Philipp A. Stäudlin is an award-winning virtuoso saxophonist who has performed hundreds of concerts throughout North America, Europe and Japan. His characteristic tonal qualities, deep sense of phrasing, and superb technical skills make him one of the most unique voices in today’s classical saxophone world. See Mr. Stäudlin’s bio below.
More than 70 voices of the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale and the Belle Voci and Madrigal Singers of NWF State College will join the orchestra for the unforgettable evening of the music of Mendelssohn.
Tickets for the MAGIC OF MENDELSSOHN concert are $25 each adult, $18 for youth ages 18 and younger, and $18 each for Active Duty Military and up to four guests. Single tickets are available by phone, web or in-person from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Box Office.
