NICEVILLE, Fla. — The City of Niceville is joining cities across the state in celebrating Florida City Week from October 20 through October 26, highlighting the people, history, and programs that make the community thrive.
Throughout the week, the City will host themed events and activities designed to help residents connect with one another, learn more about local government, and celebrate Niceville’s unique character.
The celebration begins Monday, October 20, with an Employee Highlight featuring six of the City’s dedicated staff members across social media platforms.
On Tuesday, October 21, the Niceville Library will host a special story time at 10:30 a.m., reading The City That Talks! Children attending will receive an activity and coloring book to accompany the story.

Wednesday, October 22, brings the City Department Passport, offering residents a fun way to explore City departments. Visitors can collect stamps on a printed or downloadable passport map and redeem five or more stamps for a special goodie bag. Morning hours run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and afternoon hours from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, October 23, features the annual Niceville History Night and Fall Festival at Niceville Children’s Park starting at 5 p.m. A special history walk led by local historian Elisa Mitchiner will take place at the Community Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On Friday, October 24, residents can take part in the History & Heron Hunt, a citywide challenge to visit five historical markers and three public art heron sculptures. The first three participants to photograph each historical site and share them in person or on social media (tagging the City) will receive recognition.
Historical stops include the Boggy Mill Company site, Old Maritime City, the 1934 Niceville Fire marker, the CCC Worker Statue at Turkey Creek, and Old Niceville High School, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year ahead of a planned Centennial Celebration on November 10, 2025.
Heron art locations include “Sciatic” at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center, “Petey” at Turkey Creek, and “Garden Party” at Lions Park.
Saturday, October 25, will focus on community service with a City Clean-Up event in partnership with Keep Okaloosa Beautiful. Volunteers are asked to meet at City Hall at 8 a.m. Supplies will be provided.
The week concludes on Sunday, October 26, with a Community Prayer for the City, inviting local churches to come together in prayer for Niceville’s continued unity and growth.
Florida City Week is coordinated statewide by the Florida League of Cities to celebrate local government and civic pride.
