NICEVILLE, Fla. — Students from Niceville High School earned top honors in the Congressional App Challenge for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, claiming first, second, and third place in the competition.
The first-place team winners, Luke Chavers, Chase Robbins, and Sebastian Shinnick, developed the Memory Monsters App and are invited to present their creation at the House of Code reception in Washington, D.C., in April 2025. The event provides students an opportunity to showcase their app to members of Congress.
Second place went to Sydney Foggo and Liam Wenzel for their WordSay App, while Andrew Putman earned third place for his app, Auxilium.
“These students exemplify the innovative spirit and technical skills that represent the best of Okaloosa County Schools,” said Okaloosa County Superintendent of Schools Marcus Chambers, who expressed his pride in the students’ success.
“Their success in this challenge is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and the exceptional support of their teachers and mentors. We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future.”
The Congressional App Challenge encourages middle and high school students to develop coding skills by designing innovative apps. The annual event highlights the importance of STEM education and celebrates the achievements of young programmers.
