NICEVILLE, Fla. — A Niceville High School graduate now attending Florida State University is taking part in an effort to fund a specialized all-terrain wheelchair for a disabled veteran through a national campaign and is seeking support from her hometown community.
Ansley Mitchell, a Niceville High alum and member of the Kappa Alpha Order’s Gamma Eta chapter at Florida State University, is participating in a fundraising initiative supporting the Independence Fund’s Mobility Program.
The program provides track chairs designed to help injured veterans regain mobility and independence. The chairs are built to navigate difficult terrain, including sand, mud, and dirt, allowing recipients to return to outdoor activities.
According to information provided by the organization, the campaign has raised $14,377 so far. Ms Mitchell has rasied $2,166 of that total through support from 52 donors.
Members of the Kappa Alpha Order chapter said their annual goal is to fully fund one track chair for a veteran. The effort is part of a broader mission to support those who have served and to provide meaningful, life-changing assistance.
“These mobility devices enable Veterans to reenter the outdoors and engage in the activities they enjoy,” the organization said in campaign materials.
The fundraising campaign is scheduled to end Saturday, and additional community support is being encouraged as the deadline approaches. Supporters can contribute here.
