NICEVILLE, Fla. — In recognition of her hard work and outstanding contributions to students, we proudly announce that Niceville High School’s Michele Merriott is the school’s Teacher of the Month.
The honor is part of the 2023–24 Teacher and Student of the Month series, which Niceville.com features, and local businesses generously sponsor.
Ms. Merriott, an accomplished educator, teaches English Honors 3 and English Honors 4 and serves as the yearbook sponsor and advisor at Niceville High School (NHS).
Under Ms. Merriott’s guidance, the NHS yearbook (Aquila) staff has achieved remarkable success. Her inaugural yearbook team won six awards at Troy University’s Journalism Day conference, which the prestigious Hall School of Journalism and Communication hosted.
These accolades include Best Overall Yearbook, Best Photography, Best Typography, and Best Design, showcasing the dedication and talent of the Aquila staff.
Principal Charlie Marello commends Ms. Merriott for her exceptional work, noting her “team-first” attitude, flexibility, and ability to motivate students to excel.
“Ms. Merriott is an exceptional educator who has taken on lots of new challenges at NHS and done an amazing job with all of them!” he said.
Ms. Merriott’s journey in education spans various school districts, including Hillsborough County, Pasco County, Walton County, and her current role in Okaloosa County. Her certifications, which include K-6, Reading K-12, English for Speakers of Other Languages K-12, and English 6-12, reflect her diverse skill set and commitment to fostering academic growth.
A proud graduate of the Class of 1989 at NHS, Ms. Merriott holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Troy University and a master’s degree in secondary English education from Nova Southeastern University. Her educational background showcases a combination of business acumen and a passion for English education.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Merriott finds solace in Grayton Beach, where she rejuvenates her spirit through paddleboarding amid the dunes of Western Lake.
Family holds a special place in her heart, and she has been happily married to her husband, Scott, for nearly 19 years. Their family includes Jesse, 26, Logan, 19, and Kaitlyn, 17, a proud senior at NHS who keeps them busy and full of NHS pride with her cheerleading activities.
