OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Okaloosa County School Board has approved celebrated educator Amy Klugh as the principal of Shalimar Elementary School.
The board made the decision at its meeting on Monday night.
Mrs. Klugh is a product of the Okaloosa County School District (OCSD), attending Wright Elementary School, Bruner Junior High School, and Fort Walton Beach High School.
She began her teaching career at Oak Hill Elementary in 1997, where she was named the school’s Teacher of the Year for 2003 and was one of the top three finalists for Okaloosa County Teacher of the Year.
From 1997 to 2011, Mrs. Klugh served Okaloosa County students at Oak Hill Elementary School, Eglin Elementary School, and Kenwood Elementary School before being named assistant principal of Bluewater Elementary School in 2011.
She became the principal of Bluewater Elementary School in 2015.
Mrs. Klugh was named the Okaloosa County Elementary Principal of the Year and the Okaloosa County Principal of the Year, representing Okaloosa County at the state level in 2020-2021.
“It is with this experience that she serves as a mentor to new and future administrators through our Level 2 program,” the OCSD said.
Mrs. Klugh completed her bachelor’s degree from Huntingdon College in 1996 and her Educational Leadership degree in 2000 from the University of West Florida. In 2012 she earned her National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts for Early and Middle Childhood.
This past October, Mrs. Klugh was named a Huntingdon College Alumni Loyalty Award recipient, and she currently serves as the Honorary Commander for the 87EWS in the 350 Spectrum Warfare Wing at Eglin Air Force Base.
