National Day of Prayer observance May 5 in Niceville

National Day of prayer Niceville

The 2016 National Day Of Prayer is Thursday, May 5. The Twin Cities Ministerial Association of Niceville and Valparaiso will sponsor the National Day of Pray observance for the twin-cities area. The service will begin promptly at 12 noon outside City Hall in Niceville and will conclude no later than 1 p.m. Pre-service music will begin at 11:30 am.

Prayers will be offered by various pastors in our community, lifting up all our leaders locally and in our state and our country, including our public servants like our first responders, and our military.

The National Day of Prayer will have profound significance for our country.  It is an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord’s healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come before His throne.  The theme for 2016 is Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for us, as individuals, and as a people, to return to the God of our Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name. To further highlight the theme, Isaiah 58:1a was selected as the Scripture for this year:  “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer.  In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
