TAMPA, Fla. — A U.S. Postal Service employee from St. Petersburg has pleaded guilty to theft by a postal employee, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Jesse L. Anderson, 43, faces up to five years in federal prison after admitting to stealing mail while on duty. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.

The case stems from a May 2023 complaint to the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG) regarding stolen mail, which included a credit card and Social Security card.

In October 2023, USPS-OIG received a second complaint from the same individual about another missing credit card. Investigators determined that Mr Anderson stole the cards during his postal route and subsequently used the credit card unlawfully.

The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Erin Claire Favorit and Abigail K. King are prosecuting the case.
